Here is a story from Jason Beard who is an FYM in Peru this year. If you want to check out more of his stories on his blog page click on this link http://jasonbeard.myadventures.org. This is a great way for you guys to get to know more about Peru! I just recently arrived safely home after a scary bus ride through Lima. Rubie and I, we are on our way back from teaching an English conversation class in downtown Lima when we began our thrilling ride through the streets of Lima. We were rushed into the bus and then packed in the bus like sardines. This is very typical and we were accustomed to full body contact while riding buses in Lima. However, our bus driver must have been preparing for the Indy 500, or laps around 285 in Atlanta. This guy was all over the place and taking turns on two wheels. Anyway, it was an eventful ride. I spent this past weekend in Chincha doing some more construction and spending some time talking about the possibility of me spending some more time in Chincha. I am amazed that it has been almost 2 months since I left the states to come to Peru. One thing I have realized recently is that distractions are everywhere. “Therefore since we are surrounded by such a great cloud of witnesses, let us throw off everything that hinders and the sin that so easily entangles, and let us run with perseverance the race marked out for us” (Hebrews 12:1). Running the race is something that we must choose daily and we must keep our eyes open to those things which deter our vision of the course we are running. Something I am learning is that keeping focus is of utmost importance, not just because I am in Peru, so I can effectively run this race of faith. I am amazed that the bus drivers here in Lima are able to keep their focus on the roads without causing a wreck or injuring a pedestrian.
Food I have tried here in Peru:
1. Aji de gallina-its delicious
2. Tacu Tacu-its not taco salad, its much better
3. Ceviche- raw fish with onions and some other stuff, its pretty good
Here comes the fun one, people with weak stomachs should turn away
4. Pig intestine, it was quite tasteful
On the list of testing food:
1. Guinea Pig
2. Cow heart
